What is a cortisol cocktail?

A cortisol cocktail is a nutrient-rich drink that’s made to help support the adrenals and regulate the body’s cortisol levels.

Cortisol cocktails are typically made up of electrolytes, ingredients with vitamin c, and natural sugars. These ingredients have stabilize the body’s stress response and replenish essential minerals.

The origin of the cortisol cocktail

I’ll admit, I didn’t find much about the origin of cortisol cocktails when I was researching; however, they are said to have been first talked about by functional nutritionists.

I also speculate that social media helped to promote them as well. But either way, I think that cortisol cocktails are fun to make and are a great alternative to things like soda.

Are cortisol cocktails real or fake?

There are some mixed studies as far as cortisol cocktails helping with weight loss or reducing stress, but they still contain healthy ingredients that can help regardless.

Why I love this cortisol cocktail recipe!

One of the reasons why I love this recipe is because it has blueberries! Blueberries are so nutrient dense because they’ve got fiber, vitamin k, vitamin c, potassium, and more. Click here for more blueberry info! 🙂

Additionally, this recipe is very adaptable. If you don’t like coconut water or don’t have any at the moment, you can just use filtered water. Out of honey? Use maple syrup. I will discuss ingredient variations more down below.

Lastly, this recipe is very easy to make-this is perfect if you’ve had a long day or are a busy mom or parent, etc.

What does a blueberry cortisol cocktail taste like?

The taste of this blueberry cortisol cocktail recipe is a blend of sweet and tartness with a hint of saltiness.

If you choose to add the kiwi, the cocktail will have a mild tropical tang that will balance out the lemon’s acidity.

When should I drink a cortisol cocktail?

People typically drink cortisol cocktails after a particularly stressful time or before bed to help unwind. Therefore, this drink is great if you are someone who doesn’t like drinking a relaxing tea before bed!

Additional FAQ’s

How many times in a day can I have a cortisol cocktail?

Always be sure to talk to a doctor or healthcare provider about your specific diet, but I’d say no more then 2 servings in one day.

Can I use bottled lemon juice?

Absolutely! While I recommend juice from fresh lemons, bottled lemon juice will work in a pinch.

Can I make a cortisol cocktail ahead of time to take somewhere?

Yes! I would plan it out a little. Make the cortisol cocktail a few hours ahead of time by mixing all of the ingredients together except for the ice to avoid dilution.

Will this help with adrenal fatigue?

A cortisol cocktail can support adrenal function, but it’s important to clarify that it’s not a cure for adrenal fatigue. By managing stress, eating a nutrient-dense diet, and getting enough sleep, you’ll also support your adrenals! Also, when in doubt be sure to talk to your doctor.

Can I drink a cortisol cocktail if I’m pregnant or nursing?

The ingredients in this cortisol cocktail recipe should be safe, but always make sure to check with your doctor or healthcare provider.

What if I don’t like the taste?

You can always try experimenting and adjusting the ingredients. For example, adding more honey or maple syrup if you’d like the cocktail to be a little sweeter. Or adding more lemon juice, kiwi, or even trying it with a few strawberries might make this drink have more of the flavor profile that you are looking for!

I never thought of blueberries and kiwi together– that sounds interesting! I love that this is made real food and, much as I love orange juice, not with lots of orange juice. With low thyroid, I bet this would be good for me.
