Equipment

  • Pan or Dutch Oven for simmering
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Wooden Spoon or Ladle for Serving

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup of Bone Broth- Unflavored
  • 1 Cup of Half and Half or Heavy Whipping Cream or even Milk
  • 3 Tablespoons of Cacao Powder or Cocoa Powder
  • Splash of Vanilla Extract
  • Dash of Cinnamon
  • Pinch of Sea Salt or Himalayan Salt- Optional
  • Dash of Nutmeg- Optional
  • Preferred Sweetener to Taste (optional)

Instructions

  • Start by adding the bone broth and half and half into a pan on medium low heat. Then add the cacao powder, vanilla extract, cinnamon, salt (optional), and nutmeg (optional).
  • Next, whisk everything together and bring to a slight simmer to dissolve the cacao powder. Keep whisking to incorporate everything together. You may notice some little cacao powder balls start to form, just let it keep simmering and they will eventually dissolve.
  • After everything is mixed together, remove the bone broth hot chocolate from the heat, let it cool down, and then serve with your favorite hot chocolate toppings and any kind of your preferred sweetener. I personally love maple syrup in this bone broth hot chocolate!

How to Store
Additionally, I recommend drinking all of the bone broth hot chocolate while it is fresh. However, if you have to store it, store the hot chocolate in a sealed jar or container in the fridge and drink within a few days.
